Research Interests
Cancer biology, gene expression in treatment-resistant breast cancer, Rb gene reactivation in estrogen-deprived breast cancer cells, therapeutic development, and translational biomedical science.

Research Experience
- Independently designing and conducting experiments to reactivate the Rb tumor suppressor gene in estrogen-deprived breast cancer cells.
- Investigating abemaciclib (CDK4/6 inhibitor) treatment in the context of estrogen-deprived, treatment-resistant breast cancer models.
- Developing skills in independent experimental design, scientific literature synthesis, and hypothesis-driven research.
- Contributed to research investigating potential treatments for blood cancers.
- Gained experience in a highly collaborative, translational research environment at a major academic medical center.
- Performed fluorescent tagging of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (baker’s yeast) to observe the Exo70 protein.
- Successfully preserved a tagged yeast strain for ongoing future research.
- Operated advanced fluorescence and bright-field microscopy systems.
- Defended research to the UIC Molecular Biology Research department.
- 3-month contract conducting field research and controlled experiments on Danaus plexippus (monarch butterfly) and their interactions with Asclepias (milkweed).
- Studied monarchs within the context of indigenous and Latin-American cultures as part of the CIM2AS cultural immersion and scientific advancement project.
- Collected and analyzed data on egg-laying behavior and population dynamics.
- Presented findings at UIC’s Biology Department Research Symposium.
